About anthems 2018

About the documentary co-produced by EQLovesMusic by film producer Rebecka Wijk Fagerberg:

Why this festival?
EQLovesFestival 2018 took place on both Augst 24th and 25th at Brewhouse Arena in Gothenburg. The festival aims to inspire with live interviews among music journalists such as Per Sinding Larsen and Annah Björk having discussions “couch wizdom” style with role models in music production. The event program was filled with exciting live performances by producers performing with their own productions. A limited number of special invites will be sent and feature an exclusive VIP lunch for networking opportunities.

EQLovesFestival is a Swedish initiative which aims to highlight the female role models within music production specifically – where women are severely underrepresented in the music industry. Female producers have been left unheard of ever since the beginning of the history of music recording and production, by systematically dismissing or not giving them the credit they deserve. 95% of producers in the music industry who are highlighted and represented are male.

This year the festival will feature grammy winner Sylvia Massy, one of the biggest names in music production, who worked with Prince, Tool, Johnny Cash and Red Hot Chili Peppers among others. Together with producer and chief executive of “Benny Andersson’s studio Rixmixningsverket” Linn Fijal, they will share their personal experience with the public.

Also confirmed to perform live at the festival is London producer and DJ Leila Arab, known for her collaboration with Björk.

Another guest to EQLovesFestival is Ebony Bones, from the United Kingdom, and Swedish rising star and producer Ayla. Ebony Bones was interviewed at HBO Vice News in 2017 together with Linda Perry, Grimes and Tokimonsta to talk about this very popular topic. You can watch it here:

Ebony Bones is a versatile producer who not only produces for herself as an artist but also set the tone for the fashion show music for large brands such as Yves Saint Laurent and Alexander Wang. She also produced on Yoko Ono’s track “No Bed for Beatle John”.

Ebony have received several mentions and praises by Jay-Z, The New York Times, The Guardian, etc.
Ayla will perform with DJ Miss Jen (who was recently opening act to Kapten Röd and Stina Velocette concerts).

Ida Redig will be interviewed Live at EQLovesFestival Friday the 24:th of August by Ika Johannesson and will perform the same night with her songs. Check out the time schedule.

She is a producer and an artist in Sweden who released her first album 2010 ”Standing Here” at Universal Music Group. Link to her webpage:

Her second album ”Thou Shall Not Be A Pussy was released in 2014. After this she released a song in Swedish ”Du står kvar”, 2014. Since then she has released more music in Swedish, the EP ”Jag kommer älska dig tills jag dör”, the album ”Tills döden skiljer oss åt” and several other singles.

In the year of 2016, she was nominated for SKAP award “Producer of the year”

As a music producer she goes under the name of GIRL and has produced music to commercials and also the soundtrack to TV4 tv series “Gåsmamman”.

She has also been a part of Swedish Melodifestivalen where she competed with the song “Allt som vi sa”.

Moreover the VIP Lunch (Networking lunch) will offer good food and drinks at the Beat Brewhouse restaurant for all participating producers from abroad and their managers, invited representants of the industry and Spotify’s EQUALIZER project, major labels, indie labels, management, music journalists, and branch organisations such as Musikförläggarna and IFPI. The VIP Lunch is arranged in partnership with ALMI Väst. Syster Sol and her newly founded label GAL:ANT will also be present and welcome the guests.

According to Women’s Audio Mission we estimate that only 5% of music producers are women. At the Swedish Grammies only 4 women have been awarded Producer of the Year since the beginning whereas 49 men won the title. Male songwriters represent 70% of the Swedish Melodifestivalen song contest and the number of female producers is still very low. According to Stims only 20% of all copyright owners are women out of 80,000 registered. On Spotify’s top songs for 2016 where the work of 226 songwriters appeared only 31 were women (13,7%) and the rest were 195 men (86,3%). Only 6,3% of the top earning copyright owners between 2010 and 2016 were women.

This is what EQLovesFestifval wants to change and to put a stop to the inequalities.

“Already last year a small debut of the same festival took place as a pilot to the concept but this year is the grand premiere with an ambitious two-days event” Says Melisha Linnell, one of the project managers responsible for the the festival and a trained music producer herself.

“We know there are many awesome talented and professional music producers who aren’t men”, she continues. “We want to bring those persons forward and shed light on the part they took in the industry to inspire music lovers and all those who are involved with music in anyway. Moreover we aim to create equal networks among professionals. We are committed because we are music producers ourselves and know the importance of building a future where equality is a given.”

EQLovesFestival is organized by the non-profit association EQLovesMusic which is also a network of female and non-binary music producers. The festival is done in collaboration with Kultur i Väst, Kulturrådet and Musikverket.
