On December 3rd and 4th, Anna, Zukie and Melisha from EQLovesMusic attended the annual network event and the artist showcase “Sweden Makes Music” in New York. This event was created by Swedish Consulate General in New York, Export Music Sweden and with support from the Swedish Institute. Curated by Luger.
Although still a bit jet-lagged, we entered the beautiful building where the first reception was held with great anticipation. We met some interesting music people, but also got a chance to meet the staff from the consulate general who were very happy to learn about our organisation. The atmosphere was filled with a great pride of Swedish music which was something new for us. It is probably because we never thought about swedish music from that perspective, but it was truly uplifting.
On December 4th, 2018, at Baby’s All Right, at 146 Broadway, in Brooklyn, NY, the music showcase was held and featured the band ViVii, Vacation Forever, Bella Boo and also Cherrie.
We from EQLovesMusic was especially exited to see Cherrie there. She is an artist, songwriter and producer and is truly putting Sweden on the map. With cool and soulful R&B tracks with hip hop flavor she tops it all by singing in Swedish. Her single “163 För Evigt,” went viral on Twitter last year and earned social media love from Rihanna and SZA.
Her performance were very soulful, heartfelt and it didn’t matter she told her stories in swedish, because everyone in the venue felt the message. “The language of music is universal” she said on the mic and we and the New York crowd cheered loudly.
We also talked to Jesper Thorsson, CEO of ExMS who was co organizing the event;
-We from EQLovesMusic think it’s amazing that at this event you showcased an artist / producer like Cherrie, how did it happen when you came in contact with her?
Jesper: It was not me who contacted Cherrie in front of the panel. Think it was Love from Luger. We always want to highlight interesting producers, artists and companies!
– We also thought it was awesome that she actually sings in Swedish in New York! Is this something new for you to think that Swedish also works abroad?
Jesper: It depends on genre, I think. I think it may work especially in Urban / Hip Hop etc. But Cherrie was not the first time, we have previously had Silvana Iman at this event and even that worked perfectly.
EQLovesMusic are thankful for the invite to this inspiring event and we all want to go back to New York really soon. 🙂

Även om vi fortfarande var lite jetlaggade gick vi in i den vackra byggnaden där den första mottagningen hölls med stor förväntan. Vi träffade några intressanta musikfolk, men fick också chansen att träffa personalen från generalkonsulatet som var mycket intresserade att lära sig om vår organisation. Atmosfären var fylld med en stor stolthet av svensk musik vilket var något nytt för oss. Det är förmodligen för att vi aldrig tänkt på svensk musik från det perspektivet, men det var verkligen upplyftande.

Med coola och själfulla R & B-spår med hiphop-flavor toppar hon allt genom att sjunga på svenska. Hennes singel “163 För Evigt” gick viral på Twitter förra året och tjänade social media kärlek från Rihanna och SZA.
Hennes uppträdande var väldigt själfullt, hjärtligt och det spelade ingen roll att hon berättade sina historier på svenska, eftersom alla på platsen kände budskapet. “Musikens språk är universellt” sa hon på mikrofonen och vi och New York-publiken jublade högt.
Vi pratade också med Jesper Thorsson, VD för ExMS som organiserade arrangemanget.
-Vi från EQLovesMusic tycker att det är fantastiskt att ni på detta event lyfte en artist/producent som Cherrie, hur gick det till när ni kom i kontakt med henne?
